Many people come for treatment to help with specific symptoms or to relieve specific pains e.g. osteoarthritis of the knee. Some use acupuncture because they feel generally ‘out of sorts’ but have no obvious diagnosis, others choose it simply to enhance their feeling of wellbeing. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages including babies and children. It can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.

During your first visit I will use a number of different diagnostic methods to get a complete picture of you, your health and lifestyle, including taking a full medical case history (TD – traditional diagnosis), reading your pulses on both wrists, and examining your tongue. Based on this information, I will make a diagnosis and put together your own personal treatment plan which may also include lifestyle and dietary advice. Acupuncture points are selected according to your symptoms. Very fine single-use sterile needles are used and when inserted you may feel a slight tingling sensation or a gentle dull ache as the Qi (your body’s vital energy) contacts the needle.

Frequency and number of treatments depends on your individual condition. Some change is usually felt within five or six treatments although occasionally just one or two treatments are sufficient.
